Understanding a growth vs. fixed mindset will get you through the early stages of a business

Thousands of years ago, as the people of Israel approached the promised land, 12 spies went on a recon mission and cam back with conflicting reports.

Two of the men, Joshua and Caleb, saw a land flowing with milk and honey. The other ten saw frightening giants who would certainly destroy Israel and her army. The larger group won the debate and the nation complained to Moses. In response, God sends a plague and keeps them wandering the wilderness for forty years. The journey from Egypt to Canaan usually took 40 days.

Every day I have to choose the mindset of either Joshua and Caleb or the ten pessimists.

Fixed Mindset

A person believes their abilities, intelligence, and talents are fixed traits.

They measure against perfection.

Before anything else, they see the ways something will potentially fail.

Growth Mindset

A person believes their abilities, intelligence, and talents can be developed with effort, learning, and persistence.

They thrive when they take action.

Opportunity catches their eye better than challenges.

Egypt, Wilderness, Promise

Israel had bread for the journey, a pillar of fire for a compass, and a supernatural protection against the physical toll of the journey.

The wilderness between leaving the Egypt of your soul-sucking job and the promised land of entrepreneurial freedom is challenging, but your mindset will make the difference between a 40-day journey and one that lasts forty years.
